During 2015 we converted the irrigation systems on two of our production units to Motorola systems, one of the best systems available internationally, and we are implementing the same conversion of a further two of our production units during 2016. The computerised irrigation systems allow for optimum water application without wastage or leaks. The ongoing soil moisture level reports from our moisture probes makes it possible for us to make any necessary adjustments to ensure that each vine receives the water it requires, specifically during extreme heat.
We make use of drip irrigation which keeps evaporation to a minimum. Due to the increase of average evaporation rates we have also improved our drip irrigation systems by adding an extra line of drippers creating a larger area irrigated. A further 100 hectares of this system will be completed this winter which is a considerable investment.
